Behind the Brand - Wanderlust Life

Meet Wanderlust Life: the Devon jewellery studio where every piece carries a message

There's a stretch of coastline in North Devon that has a particular quality of light — the kind that catches on water, on stone, on the facets of a gemstone held up to the sun. It's the kind of place that makes you want to hold on to a moment. To carry it with you somehow.

That instinct is exactly what Wanderlust Life was built on.

Georgie Roberts founded the brand in 2013 with a clear and enduring idea: that the best jewellery doesn't just look beautiful, it means something. It captures a memory, marks a moment, acts as a daily reminder of something important to the person wearing it. More than a decade on, the all-female team working from their Devon studio still designs every piece with that principle at its heart.

Jewellery as visual mantra

The Wanderlust Life aesthetic is nature-led and quietly confident — semi-precious faceted gemstones, fine cord necklaces, delicate layering chains, personalised pendants, and mix-and-stack collections designed to be worn together and built up over time. Each stone is chosen with meaning in mind: the properties and symbolism of gemstones are woven into the brand's DNA, making every piece feel like more than an accessory. It's something to reach for on a difficult morning, or give to someone who needs a reminder of their own strength.

Nearly 80% of pieces are made by hand in the North Devon studio. The remainder is produced by artisan partners in Jaipur and Birmingham, all of whom are certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council — an assurance that the people and practices behind the pieces meet rigorous standards on ethics, human rights and environmental responsibility.

Credentials that go beyond the label

In 2023, Wanderlust Life began the journey toward B Corp certification. They achieved it just twelve months later — a process that involves independently verified assessment across social and environmental performance, governance, community impact and workers' welfare. It's one of the most demanding certifications a business can pursue, and the fact that Wanderlust Life found many of their existing practices already met the criteria says something about how deeply these values were embedded long before the formal process began.

The sustainability commitments are specific and tangible: collections produced in small runs to eliminate overstock and waste; 100% plastic-free and recyclable mail packaging; lab-grown opals and diamonds used in place of mined stones; gold sourced through Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter from suppliers meeting strict ethical standards; and two tonnes of carbon offset through Ecologi, with a clear path toward Net Zero.

Made to last, made to be repaired

Perhaps what we find most compelling about Wanderlust Life is the repair and refurbishment service. In a jewellery market where pieces are often treated as disposable, the team actively encourages customers to send pieces back — for replating, cord replacement, or a full refresh — rather than replacing them. It's a small thing, but it reflects a genuinely different relationship between maker and customer: one built on longevity rather than turnover.

Members of their Golden Gang rewards programme even receive free refurbishment credits, alongside points for making sustainable choices like opting out of packaging in-store or recycling old silver jewellery. It's a loyalty scheme with something worth being loyal to.

The jewellery itself is designed to accumulate meaning over time — to be layered, personalised, worn in and worn well. Pieces that start as a gift become a habit. A necklace becomes the one you always reach for. That kind of quiet staying power is, in the end, what sustainable fashion is really about.
